ADULT EDUCATION

A continuing education program in Jewish studies offers adults multiple opportunities for investigating both traditional and contemporary areas of interest. Those who wish, will find available courses ranging from Hebrew and Bible study to literature and social issues.

Community Intro to Judaism

The liberal Jewish community will be offering an Introduction to Judaism.  Whether you need a refresher, are interested learning the basics of Judaism, are thinking about choosing Judaism or choosing to spend your life with someone Jewish; this class is a great place to start.

Weekly Torah Study - every Shabbat morning 9:15 a.m. - 10:15 a.m.

Study the Torah or Haftarah portion of the week with a member of the clergy.  Learn, schmooze, have some coffee and enjoy the company of other learners.

Women's Study Group - monthly 7:30-9:00 p.m.

See monthly bulletin for dates - Group meets in members' homes.  With Rabbi Ilana Schwartzman, we will explore Jewish tradition and how we relate to it as Jewish women. All women members of the Congregation are welcome to this informal study session. Join us for lively and informative conversation! 

Talmud Study with Rabbi Rosenfeld

Every Tuesday 12:00-1:00 p.m. at 805 Delaware Avenue

For beginners and above. Bring your lunch and study Tractate Brachot in English. Brachot teaches us about our prayers and contains wonderful stories and insights.

THE FLORENCE MELTON ADULT MINI-SCHOOL

The Florence Melton Adult Mini-School was conceived in 1980 by philanthropist Florence Melton as a solution for busy adults who want to enrich their lives with intellectually stimulating Jewish studies.  This university-quality program is designed to give adults a broad spectrum curriculum integrating Jewish practices, history, ethics, ideas and values using primary texts in English. Melton is a unique approach to which takes into consideration the needs and backgrounds of every student, so that Judaism is understood in the context of the world we live in today.

Classes meet once a week for 28 sessions for 2 years and discussions are led by highly qualified teachers from our community: Rabbi Harry Rosenfeld, Dr. Gerald Berkowitz, and Rabbi Mordechai Friedfertig. There are no pre- requisites, exams or homework.
